Indonesian Ambassador to the UK, Desra said, industry players in the UK are very interested in Indonesian Palm Oil Effluent (POME) to be used as raw material for biofuels. Exports of raw materials from Indonesia are used by the UK to meet renewable energy needs there. Seeing this, Desra assessed that biodiesel investment opportunities in Indonesia are also wide open, in order to support a sustainable palm oil supply chain . In this case, the Indonesian Embassy in London is ready to facilitate cooperation. The UK considers that the quality of palm oil effluent from Indonesia is better than from other countries. Nearly 50% of the UK's biofuel raw materials come from palm oil waste imported from Indonesia. In 2020 alone, the UK has imported Indonesian palm oil (HS Code 1511 and 1513) worth USD 67.9 million.

This amount increased by 10.2% compared to imports in 2019 of USD 61.6 million. Seeing Britain's interest in Indonesia's palm oil waste, Indonesia itself plans to increase exports of palm oil waste to 250 thousand tons by 2022. Indeed, palm oil effluent is useful for producing biofuel. With the production of palm oil waste of 147 million tons per year, it is able to produce 4,127 million cubic meters of biofuel every year. This biofuel can reduce the consumption of natural gas or be used for electricity generation (bioelectricity). Uniquely, biofuels produced from palm oil waste can be produced together as long as the sun shines. So that biofuel production will be sustainable.
